Sewerage
Sewerage from the Lancelin South Development is collected and transferred to a small treatment plant, located outside of the residential area. The sewerage is treated by a biological process followed by chlorination before it is finally discharged to an infiltration pond.
The sewerage treatment process is monitored regularly to ensure it meets the requirements of the Department of Health and the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation.
Everything that goes down the kitchen, laundry and bathroom sink or is flushed down the toilet, ends up in our sewerage system.
Only flush the 3Ps – pee, poo and toilet paper.
To avoid blocking our sewerage system, don’t put the following into the toilet or down the sinks:
- Non-flushable wet wipes*
- Tissues and paper towels

- Cotton buds, cotton balls, nappies, condoms, sanitary products and wrappers
- Bandages and band-aids
- Dental floss
- Hair
- Motor oils, paints or pesticides
- Fats, oils or food scraps
- Medicines Flushable Products Standard
- Plastics and other non-biodegradable products
*Flushable wet wipe products must comply with the Flushable Products Standard (AS/NZS 5328:2022).
If in doubt – throw it out!
We also suggest you follow these handy hints:
- Use a sink strainer to prevent food scraps and other household waste, from going down the drain.
- Pour kitchen fats and oils into a container; seal it and throw it in the bin.
- Wipe greasy pots and pans with a paper towel before washing.
- Dispose of items such as cotton buds, nappies, condoms, sanitary products and their wrappers in the household rubbish.
- Ask your local pharmacy or council for advice on how to dispose of medicines, hazardous chemicals or motor oils.
